This looks so good. I didn't really like 4 and didn't even bother with Primal. This seems like everything good with 3 plus more.

So I looked into the season pass, and it actually seems pretty cool. Looks like they are doing 3 "wacky" single player campaigns in the way of Blood Dragon. The first one is time traveling back to the Vietnam War, the second is zombie apocalypse and the third is killing arachnid aliens on Mars.
Ubisoft proved themselves to me again after playing the new Assassin's Creed. Seems like they are starting to take more time in the development process again which is exactly what they needed to do. Decided to pre-order the Gold edition of this. Hopefully it works out!

I liked Primal enough, but I missed Far Cry with guns. I'm 12 hours deep and I've just been running around doing random shit instead of the story. The scenery is pretty great and kind of makes me want to move to Montana lol.

game is surprisingly good for a 6th iteration. Very well optimized on PC getting solid 60 FPS with a four(five?) year old AMD Rage and Ryzen 1700x

I'm having a mixed experience here so far, maybe shooters have just grown tiresome but it doesn't seem like as much of a departure from the others as I might've thought. Sometimes the setting and cultists and everything feels very effective, other times I feel like I'm still just swinging on my grappling hook to collect useless shit in a relatively generic landscape.
People have definitely been too harsh about it's shortcomings, but at the same time I think a lot of the people giving it 10's just really like America and blowing shit up. I think a 7.8 is like a super fair score so far!

I think a 7.8 is like a super fair score so far! I mostly agree, but I'd probably give it an 8 or 8.5 so far. I like it more than 4 and Primal, but not as much as 3 which might be one of my favorite games ever. It feels less like the typical "Ubisoft open-world" sandbox to me than 4 and Primal did imo.

I think that’s totally fair. Far Cry 4 and even Primal had that super generic Ubisoft feel and I think the company is really working to bring back some of the innovation that made them big in the first place. Honestly I think my expectations were just a bit too high after playing Origins and seeing how massively revamped AC has become. When I popped in FC5 I was kinda just like “yeah this looks awesome and everything but it’s still VERY much a Far Cry game, which is both a very good and bad thing. I can’t believe they brought Hurk back I hate him so much lmao

I guess Far Cry 3 was the reinvention of the series after everyone hated Far Cry 2, which was actually one of my favorite games of the PS3/360 generation. I don't know how excited I'd be about a Far Cry 6 that didn't come with a host of substantial changes, but I like how they stripped out a lot of the tedium like hunting for mats to craft upgrades in Far Cry 5.

I can't bring myself to buy it.
Boy did I put some hours into the original Far Cry multiplayer. Hiding way up in the hills with my sniper rifle, haha.

I can’t believe they brought Hurk back I hate him so much lmao The thing is, they kept their style and still managed to make it better. I liked 3, however 4 and primal got stale quickly. I honestly dislike their formula for Far Cry, as I think the original regardless of different devs, was awesome (jmo so hate away), and Far Cry 2 was delightful besides their terrible, terrible fucking AI. However, I've had some awesome experiences with FC5 so far. Almost movie-like experiences, with some action packed moments lol. I think they stepped in the right direction with this one, and to be honest, the cult story-line is pretty amusing since they were influenced by known american cults/cult leaders in the past. Ubisoft does open world games pretty damn well now, and the map is absolutely gorgeous. Gameplay is fun for what it is, but like I said, it's loads better than the last 2 Far Crys.
I wish they would float away from sequels and just make a new IP ffs. I'm also glad they didn't go with their edgy-hipster-meme-watchdogs2 theme with this one like they could've.
So far it's been a solid 8.5 for me, could change when I beat it though I do find it more fun than most recent releases thus far.

Jack Carver has a very special place in my heart, and FC2 was super immersive for its time. I also like the cult aspect of the game (they’ve done their research for sure, J Seed totally has the David Koresh glasses) a lot more than the past angles they’ve taken since 2. What disappoints me is the inconsistency in tone of a story they so adamantly shove down your throat. I feel like they’re still just trying to top Vaas and it’s getting old. If they could make a new IP in a similar vein I would definitely support.
