Apparently I am the only one who enjoyed taking missions from witch doctors and spearing neanderthals in the face I thought it was ok, but I didn't love it. Seemed like the story ended very abruptly. Also I had a really hard time spotting enemies pretty much everywhere. Not sure if that means I'm blind or retarded (or both?).

I'm usually all about the story in games, but Far Cry is a formula and the stories only ever exist to give the gameplay context, so I invest very minimal care into them. That was especially the case in Primal. I don't remember a single character other than witch doctor guy and hunter guy, and that doesn't really bother me because it's a game about waging primitive warfare and that's it. Vey unique experience to be had in a game, unlike "WOAAAAH EXOTIC LOCATION! WOAAAH EXOTIC BABE! SUUUUPER TRIPPY DRUGS! LOUD GUNS, BIG JEEPS AND WHITE TIGERS BRO!" which is exactly how every other Far Cry after 2 has felt. Essentially the videogame equivalent of Monster.

I feel like I'm the only person who thinks that Far Cry 4's story is super solid lol. Yeah, it comes off as kind of a dudebro sandbox at the outset, but the way Pagan Min and the Golden Path develop by the end of the game is awesome. FC3's characters were generally well done while the story was somewhat lackluster and neither were very strong in Primal. Primal had the most interesting setting of the bunch, I think. Not sure why I had such a hard time locating and fighting enemies, though.

I don't remember the protagonist of FC4 even having a voice lol, but I do remember what an annoying misfire Hurk was. I actually liked how FC3 played out a lot, starting out as a character with the personality of a selfie stick and watching him lose himself and parts of his humanity in his all consuming quest for revenge was a neat modern spin on a classic literature trope. I hated the character he was and I was so glad to watch him grow out of it. Idk what your deal was with finding enemies in Primal though haha, did you get the ability where you could tag them?

I liked how the Golden Path spends the whole game trying to convince you that Pagan Min is some horrible despot and then they come out to be much worse than he was at the end. Amita turns Kyrat into a totalitarian drug state with conscripted child soldiers and Sabal is a religious zealot who drives the Golden Path to track down and execute dissidents. The worst thing Pagan Min did was torture that dude (an actual terrorist) in his house at the beginning of the game. Basically you spend the entire game fighting for Himalayan ISIS and it isn't revealed that you're kind of on the wrong side until the end; I appreciated how they kept that twist under wraps throughout the story and flipped everything on its head at the end.

4 actually sounds better than 3 then. 3 was fun, but it got pretty boring and kind of ridiculous towards the end. I couldn't bring myself to finish 4, however that was also due to my old PC and the problems at launch. I deleted 4 and never bothered to replay it again, however what Ghosty described sounds neat.
I personally think Far Cry is the most boring series in terms of gameplay though. I, too, had the spotting problem with Primal and I'm not really sure what it was. I honestly ran past several enemies and didn't even see them until they attacked me (gotta love the auto aim spear throwing by the AI). Primal was a dope concept, but they of course ruined it with their typical FC re-skin.
I wish they could come up with something as cool as the first Far Cry. I know I'm in the minority for liking that game the most, but it was awesome imo. You start off like your typical bad ass ex-soldier, killing enemies and then you get a twist full of random monsters.
Fuck, even FC2 was better than 3/4/Primal despite having the worst AI I've ever seen (okay that's a lie). Believe or not, FC2 actually had some really cool features IIRC. I can't remember them off the bat, but I know the new ones lack it.

The "Instincts" version they had for console was even better too. You augmented Jack Carver throughout the game to match your playstyle, and could basically turn HIM into a monster. Stalking goons through the trees, leaping down on them and just gutting them with your barehands was so cool. PLUS the whole "Predator" multiplayer mode where one player had monster abilities and stalked the others through custom made maps was like, sleepover mecca for my friends and I. Honestly it's one the of the most beloved games from my childhood and probably why I still invest in the series.

I think this shit looks like it could be pretty great. I enjoyed the hell out of 3 & 4, even with all the launch problems with 4 I still had fun with it. Full campaign co-op with 5 is a major + for me.
*EDIT: Damn you Nicky!*

The main villain also totally reminds me of Aleister Black from NXT.

This looks interesting, I actually haven't played most of the Far Cry series.
Just bought the Far Cry Compilation pack and holy shit is Far Cry 2 boring as hell. Going to skip to 3.

I've never played a FC game but this latest one really has really piqued my interest. Are these games like Mass Effect/Halo where the story continues throughout the series? Or more like GTA where each game has its own separate plot. I think I'm gonna pick up FC5 but I dont want to be completely lost.

Don't need to have played any of the past Far Cry's to get into the most recent one.

Let's hope Ubisoft can change up the game play in this one. If so, I'll look into it more. Story/concept seems cool, but I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS DIFFERENT.
