Black metal and death metal and black metal and death metal... i just couldn't keep listening to the same bands and genres. I'll pick a track i guess and write about it soon, and try to pick something else.

Yes, but I have already posted a track on the last page that was not commented on, and it’s not black or death metal. Maybe I should repost it. It was a very surprising track to me.

What genre of music is that? Doom metal I guess? I mean, i listen to some doom, Isis for sure if they're that, but almost nothing else. I bought a Neurosis album many years ago and listened to it like three times, though it put me to sleep pretty well. That song was droning and interminably boring. (Ha, even the video is just images repeating over and over and over. Ironic or painfully unaware?) Admittedly, I can see some small snippets of emulation of Pink Floyd there, and i get what they're going for i think. i Perhaps could see some guys getting blazed to this and riffing on the psychedelic twists here, which make for a unique sound i suppose. To be fair, I found another song of theirs because i didn't want to shit on this band too hard, and though it's far too long and with sections i skipped through, the title track on Mercy is pretty good -- fleshofthestars.bandcamp.com/album/mercy -- and that kind of stuff i could get behind. Frankly, you picked a poor song i didn't like, and i'm glad i looked for another because "Mercy" is miles better. The synth parts do nothing to me, but some of the loud riffs i can really dig. Let me pick an epic song of my own, albeit of a different but tangential genre. Morrow is just a ridiculously great band, with only two albums to their name (I think), they've carved out a niche that transcends classification, but if you had to name it you would throw in epic crust punk with hardcore and doom metal influences. Wait for the change right at the 6-minute mark. This is the closing track to Fallow, their latest record, and at 5 songs it encapsulates the wide-ranging talent of this band, not afraid to pepper their d-beat with violin chords. Love love love it.

Not a bad track at all. I think I would classify it as Doom, because of how 95% of the song is. I couldn’t decide exactly which to pick, so I thought I’d throw both songs up, and check out whichever strikes your fancy the most.

The Red Paintings is the one I’ll comment on, as it was my favorite of the two. When the song started, I was all in the whole “Aww no no no” zone with those vocals because really I didn’t like his voice nor did I think it fit with the nice textures of the track. However, once we arrived at the chorus, I felt like it all just made sense, and I never again thought about this non-fitting vocal ability/tone. I also really enjoyed the strings at the end of the track, just blossoming into beautiful embellishments. I appreciate when they use real strings, and I could tell that those at the end were all real. I wasn’t loving the lack of vibrato, but I don’t know, maybe they wanted it that way. No matter. It was a nice song.
Motörhead are an old legendary rock/metal band. Knowing that I tend to highly revere those old legendary metal/rock bands, like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Dio, Metallica, and the like, you’d think I’d be a mammoth fan of Motörhead. But actually, I’ve never been a mega fan. I will say, though, that Overkill is my favorite album of their’s, and I think it’s got some pretty great songs on it. This track is my favorite, the title-track. I still remember my first reaction, because I laughed so hard at the ending because of the start-stop of the beginning section. Now I don’t laugh as much at it, because it’s just epic.

Motorhead was the first big gig I ever went to when I was 14. And I saw them two more times after that. They were amazing. Overkill is an awesome album.
This is my pick. I've been slamming this for a couple of weeks now.

Diana Ross: I’ve gotta admit, I had heard of her a million times in my life, but I’ve never just decidedly listened to her before. I guess it didn’t seem like a potential fit for me. I can’t say I’d listen to this had it not been posted here, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. I liked the band more than anything. Nice groovy and cool colors in their sound and style. The lyrics sheet for this one is so short, which may partly explain why I didn’t find much interest in her or the singing. Not much of a story, other than I get that she knows he’s cheating, but he can still rock her world. Haha! That’s quite a guy, eh? Haha! Now I know Diana Ross a little better.
I’ll surprise people this time and go old old. Harry Chapin is a folk music singer/musician of the old days who has a knack for writing his life stories and others into beautifully crafted and memorable songs. I grew into liking it by hearing it from my mother’s CD collection a lot around middle school. Some of those songs genuinely bring tears to my eyes. This one here, is one of the very few songs in my life that can give me goosebumps. So damn beautiful and sad. I hope that the fate the man in the story has isn’t one that any of you married marshers will realize you also share someday. Beautiful, sad song.

That was a bangin tune. I was real into a lot of folk stuff a few years ago. I love the sound of the 12 string acoustic and the orchestration was very tasteful.
In a similar vein is this.. one of my favourite tracks from an amazing album.

Jefferson Airplane. Never heard of them. But that was some stellar guitar playing. Clean, playful, and skillful playing there. I can see why anyone would love this. I especially liked the syncopated bits that persisted at moments, especially the one at the end that hung on a V7 chord building the dissonance before resolving to a I chord. I’ll like to check them out further in the future. Also I like that it’s clean because I can use it in my music classes for activities or something. Thanks for sharing that.
I’m going metal again. Crypt Sermon have an album coming out next month which I’m really excited about. In the meantime, here is a great track from their first/previous album.

I'm very sorry, but my mind is slightly blown you've never heard of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship. Don't know if it was just me or what, but their songs White Rabbit and Somebody To Love were always played on classic rock radio all the time... Wow.

Someone who likes rock music hasn't heard of Jefferson Airplane? Good lord. Sorry to break the rules of my own thread, but holy jesus. Listen to classic rock, y'all!!

I hated classic rock growing up. I still am not fond of it. That there sounded more folky, which I like. Tch! Both of you broke the thread flow. I’ll post mine again so it’s clear.
