An interesting beast, indeed. Finally getting around to working my way through their discography. Tao, you’re getting me all excited! About 3 or 4 years ago, I was working my way through Sepultura’s thrash albums and the starts of Old School death metal. I was collecting all the reissues of Death’s discography. Okay, maybe more than 4 years ago, I don’t remember when this was. But you’re making me want to go back and listen to these albums again. Leprosy, by Death, is my favorite album they made. Not only that, but it is my favorite album from the year I was born. So that’s a cool album for me to think about. Despite my deep love and appreciation for Chuck Schuldiner and Death, as I age, I find that I gravitate more and more to the other arguable start of death metal, Possessed and their first album, Seven Churches. And the new Possessed album this year kicks so much ass. The closest we’ll ever get to more Death is through the albums of Gruesome, which I also think are fucking amazing. Gruesome’s albums sound just like Leprosy-era Death.

Ghost - From the Pinnacle to the Pit This album along with others was uploaded the other day on the site I frequent the most for music. I definitely plan to get this album, as I’ve slightly caught the Ghost bug. Weird feeling, because my first taste of this band was quite late, from their most recent full album, they song “Rats.” That song gave me lots of feels, and the music video was one of the most stimulating things I’d seen that year, but I didn’t quite get it. I feel I totally get it now! Haha

I definitely enjoy them a lot more now and with each new album they release. They do amazing cover songs as well. If you haven't heard any of them, check out their covers for: Roky Erickson - If You Have Ghosts The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin Imperiet - Bible They have more, but I think those are some of the best.

Honestly, from “Morbid Visions...” to “Chaos AD”, Sepultura had thrash on lockdown. “Schizophrenia” is probably my 2nd fave from them, right behind “Beneath The Remains”. Yeah man. For me, it would be Schizophrenia, Arise, and then Beneath the Remains. Although BtR is their more popular thrash era album, it hasn't stuck with me as deeply as Arise and Schizo, but all are great albums. Also, I just have a weird thing with the album cover for Arise, like, what the fuck am I looking at, but at the same time, it's kinda subtly badass. Yeah, BtR was the album that introduced me to Sepultura, so that's why it's got the #1 spot. I'm sure if I listened in a more detached, objective way my opinions would be slightly more mutable, but right now it's BtR, Schizo and then Chaos AD for the top 3; kinda hard to pick with a modicum of definitiveness, as they're all so good until you get up to Roots. Roots is boring.

I only listen to power metal when it's WoT themed and I'm on a WoT kick...
