I consider myself to be someone who is pretty keen on how the music industry works, ESPECIALLY within our scene, and this one is a god damn mystery to me. Preach! I just can't wrap my head around, how somebody can stand more than a few seconds listening to that utter garbage, let alone support these fucks somehow financially. The closest I've come to rationalizing it is that they are a band that is more about selling an image, attitude and lifestyle than the music at all. The demographic has to be teenagers who haven't really discovered actual metal/hardcore yet and have not yet realized that the band has no credibility. These kids aren't exposed to rock music at all on the radio or tv anymore, and when they hear guitar solos and breakdowns they are intrigued, but it's Franz acting like a fucking mumble rapper on top of it all that makes it familiar enough for them to grasp and transition into. They don't know that no one in our scene wants to play with them. They don't know the credible projects that other members were in before. They don't know we knew Franz first as a fat, pathetic, fame-seeking loser on an MTV show. To them this is an edgy, "heavy" take on the rap/hiphop music standard that they have grown up with.

Linkin Park Disturbed In This Moment All That Remains Volbeat Five Finger Death Punch Breaking Benjamin To name a few... I wouldn't exactly say these are "at the moment" lol. Maybe I'm just salty because Breaking Benjamin's "We Are Not Alone" is my ultimate guilty pleasure album haha. What can I say, shit is heavy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean sure that sounds about right, but my implication would be, that they are being used as a sort of stepping stone for kids to get into other metal bands but it doesn't seem as if they were to abandon these douchebags during the process, considering how long of an active band they are.

I can only speak for myself here and my observations but around where I live, these bands just get tooooo much hype over the years. Some people actually think that FFDP might be the heaviest band around.

That's definitely the other side of the coin and the only other type of fan you see that's into them. The guys who got into metal/hardcore because of (at least partially or like you said, as a stepping stone) the band who have not abandoned them because they themselves seem to be douchebags. These are the people making the defenses like "Talk all the shit you want haters, Franz is a marketing genius, Attila since day one".

I was referring to Breaking Benjamin, and I guess All That Remains and In This Moment. People fucking hate ATR anymore, but then again I live in southern California. I could see them getting support in other parts of the country easily.

Most of the times I just imagine their fans to be some easy influenced twelve year olds but putting the douchebags in the mix might explain their long run to me.

Let's not forget that they are also the ones too stupid to figure out how to download music for free, obviously creating higher sales, god knows they would download illegally if they could lol.

Them, and FFDP are some of the most overrated shit in Metal today. I'd also add Hellyeah to that list. As far as Breaking Benjamin and In This Moment, I have never liked either Band enough to support them but they're not terrible musically, I find BB to be a little too much like Chevelle and ITM to just be bad Nu Metal with a big boobed singer.

I mean, you're not wrong... BB is (or was) more metal than Chevelle, and Chevelle is probably actually a better band lol. All That Remains was good on This Darkened Heart and The Fall of Ideals but everything afterwards drops in quality exponentially with each release. Just awful now.

never understood the hype around a day to remember or parkway drive Gotta admit I have an enormous soft spot for both of these bands, but I get it. ADTR should be lame but somehow isn't. For Those Who Have Heart was so revolutionary when it first hit that you just couldn't help but pay attention. They're not at all what they used to be but I'm happy for their success, and I know some hard ass hardcore dudes who still rock them lol. Parkway in the end is pretty generic, they took me longer to get into. They just do what they do really well, until the latest record they maintained a really good balance of accessibility and adherence to their original sound. With Ire they've made a point of displaying that era of Parkway is over and that they are doing the obligatory "moving forward" thing bands do when they realize how much money they could really be making. Good for them for pulling it off without being Attila though.
