I recently finished Watch Dogs 2 on PS4. I liked the first one even though I know it was not publicly well received and I liked this one as well. Funny story, entertaining gameplay and good challenges in the game. However the single player game felt pretty short to me - might be just that I breezed through since I enjoyed it a lot.
Next one will probably be Assassin's Creed: Origins.

I haven’t gotten myself anything for Christmas yet, but I am eyeballing the Witcher 3 for my Switch currently. Admittedly, I owned it on PS4 a few years ago and only played a couple of hours or so before deciding it didn’t connect with me. I had just finished Dark Souls 3 or something, so the combat of Witcher 3 was a major letdown and turnoff. However, with the Switch release, I’ve regrown my interest and watched a bunch of videos of Switch gameplay, which although is way inferior to PS4 gameplay, made me realize I made a mistake in selling my PS4 copy.
Anyway, been looking to play a big game on my switch. I did get Skyrim and planned on playing that soon, but I’ve already played through Skyrim twice, and kinda do want a new experience. Probably gonna bite the bullet and purchase Witcher and play it when it finishes downloading a month later. Lol

I left my Switch on and plugged in all night with hopes that the Witcher 3 would be close to finished in downloading. It went from 0% to 37% downloaded overnight! I had hoped for more than that, but it’s a good amount of progress. Now my only worry is that my Switch will hit me with the same DNS error that wiped out the initial 3% I had downloaded and start me over again at 0% due to lousy WiFi. I can only hope this time will be a continuous but slow download as I bring my switch back to Shanghai today.

Well, after about four or five days of constant downloading, my Switch is showing signs that it’s reaching the end of the tunnel with regards to this mammoth download of Witcher 3, as I have reached 83% download completion. In the meantime, my eternal love for The Binding of Isaac grows even stronger as I have been playing a new file on Afterbirth+ on my switch. Favorite game of all time is a likely persona title for me to give this game. I’ve most certainly put more hours into this game series than any other.

So, I read many reviews about Witcher 3 and its incredible world full of things to catch your attention, but I never expected I would also get extraordinarily curious about something extra in the game like what happened last night. I was on horse, riding off to a mission destination, when I discovered a freshly burned house, which my ears lead me to due to crying peasants in front of it. And then I was actually interested enough to investigate. Then I looked over the cliff behind the burned house and saw for the first time Drowners, which I felt a need to go fight. So I went down to the ocean shore where the drowners were to fight. At the end, I discovered shipwrecked treasure that they were likely protecting. Didn’t expect a mission to lead to total sidetracking for an hour leading to satisfying treasure.
I partially decided to get this game for my switch because it was listed in many top 10 games of the decade posts and articles, often the #1 pick. It’s funny that I once owned the game on PS4 and sold it shortly after being dissatisfied with the combat feel two hours into the game. Now I just feel so damn curious about this game. It really is good!
Question for those of you who have played it though: is there any reason not to meditate after losing a bit of health as opposed to eating? Meditating seems sufficient and less wasteful of resources.

Meditating seems sufficient and less wasteful of resources. Meditate away! Eating is more for playthroughs on blood and broken bones and death march, where meditation doesn't heal you and enemies hit a whole lot harder. This is actually my favorite game of all time, and I can never seem to escape it. I got re-obsessed after the show came out and I'm currently on a play through where I'm going exclusively alchemy, which I've never done. It's really tight to see body parts just go flying every time I throw a bomb lmfao. I have all these amazing games waiting for me to finish (Outer Worlds, Jedi Fallen Order, Death Stranding) yet here I am, playing the Witcher 3 again smh.

Thanks for that. Exclusively alchemy? That sounds so counter to my playstyle, but I also honestly have not used alchemy outside of the tutorial for it. I can imagine it would make for actually interesting results. I’m not that far into it though, so what would I know anyway? I just advanced in the story to the first new area, but I returned instantly to the first area to finish sidequests and reach all the place of power spots. Still a level 3 Witcher. Hard to get progress on it when you’re always taking care of a baby in your free time. Lol but wow man, this game really sucked me in. Unfortunately, when I have play time, I’m more likely to play Binding of Isaac since I don’t have to have a quiet space or a clear head to play that. Witcher is too good to play when you’re only halfway alert and invested in gaming in time.

On my first play through I did everything in white orchard as well but tbh it’s by far the worst part of the game and I have skipped it aside from the main quest every time since then. The bloody baron quest line (pretty much the first main quest line in Velen, the second area) is what really sucked me into the game where it became an obsession yeah the alchemy skill tree is kind of crazy powerful, and it’s much more useful on harder difficulties when oils and decoctions matter more cause enemies are much more difficult. You have to start thinking about every fight before you get into it and be aware of enemy strengths and weaknesses, and how to exploit them. Bombs are tons of fun, and a lot of alchemy upgrades actually up your damage total a ton from just your swords, like poisoned blades causes poison damage whenever you have oil on em etc. Try it out next time you start a new play through, my first play through was kind of a mix of physical and signs, with a heavy emphasis on Quen and Igni and it was still a blast. also don’t get stressed about where you put your ability points cause you can reset them with a potion pretty much whenever you want starting around like level 5 or 6 or whenever you get to Novigrad.

I definitely see what you mean about the game getting more interesting at Velen. Right off the bat I’m seeing more interesting things and the side quest with the burning bodies thing is also introduced in an intriguing manner.

It is strange to reach this point in life; I have been a gamer since I was 5 years old, but for the first time ever, I’m looking at the new console generation with no plans to purchase and be a gamer in the PS5/Xbox Series X (or whatever that thing is called) era. Truly, I expect those consoles to be amazing, and I won’t doubt that there will be some incredible games up my alley that I’ll be missing out on...but as I get older I’m finding less and less time to play games, and picking up a big game like Witcher 3 easily spells out my gaming life for a whole year with how little gaming time I’m finding. With that considered, I just can’t justify me getting a new console in the next generation. While I expected to feel sad about the day I’d stop keeping up with gaming, I don’t at all. But if my Switch craps out on me anytime soon, I most likely will at least replace it.

Don’t feel like starting a Witcher 3 thread just for this, but maybe our resident Witcher 3 fan tucker, or any of you familiar can answer this question. Those notice boards, sometimes I read the notices and can visibly find new markers like question marks placed on my map. At other times, it just seems like meaningless notices that don’t put anything on the map, like this recurring notice looking to borrow a new plough in White Orchard. While these few notices seem potentially meaningless, I can’t help but consider that I’m missing something. Every time I return to White Orchard there are 6 notices that show again but never update my map or give me secondary quests to track. Am I truly missing something? Am I supposed to guess where those people/quests begin and then get to start it? Or is it just empty notices for no reason?

Stop going back to white orchard it sucks lmfao. The only thing worth going there for again is to kill the cows a couple times and fight that one monster that protects them but don't do that until you are a high level. It is only a real quest if the marker is yellow on the notice boards, otherwise you can pretty much ignore them. If you get something that tells you to read it always do that, but otherwise it doesn't matter. The question marks are usually something very fun but some of them are super difficult and you should avoid for a while, but it's definitely worth clearing out everything.
