It’s been pretty sweet coming back to Arizona and seeing old friends. I had been told before by a friend before I left Arizona that “You can never go back home.” I truthfully understand that sentiment. I’ve gone back to my hometown many times with the hope or even expectation that things will be the same and that my old friends would still be the same old friends. But things don’t really work that way.
However, it has been one year now since I saw any of these guys I just hung out with at Arizona Wilderness Brewing, and it really felt as if I had never left. It further cemented the one sad feeling I had about leaving Arizona, which was that I had finally found “my people.” It is hard to find that sense of community sometimes. These guys are all great. Ty are also the only circle of friends I have that are all male. In my life, I’ve always had many female friends and an absence of male friends. My wife always hated that. But in Arizona I had great male friends. It kinda sucks to leave tomorrow, because it is another time leaving something I can recognize clearly is super great in my life. But hopefully I’ll find a new “my people” in Shanghai eventually. I did meet a really cool guy in Shanghai five days ago who was originally from North Carolina. The only thing I don’t like is that he is pretty big on God. I’m not religious anymore. However, don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with others having a religion. It just doesn’t give me comfort when they bring up how God did something for them a lot. Especially when I don’t see anything miraculous or out of the ordinary about what they claimed God did for them. But anyway, I didn’t mean to go off on a religion tangent. Lol
Good to be back and visit. But I do also already miss the China life, interestingly! I guess I like the faster-paced feel of Shanghai. Life feels like it runs in slow motion here to me now.

Being lactose intolerant kinda sucks sometimes. I forgot to bring my dairy digestive tablets to the US and I’ve been eating ice cream almost daily. Lol On the other hand, it’s a nice, honest excuse for those times when I’m at a restaurant and don’t want to eat something smothered in cheese (I think cheese is disgusting, don’t hate me!). This is something I love about my new life in China because it seems ten times less likely to find cheese stashed inside your food there than here in the US. I think probably most Americans just love cheese, which has informed the food industry to include it in many meals. I don’t have a problem with that, but I do dislike being the difficult one when ordering and everything comes with cheese in it.

Lol I was going through my seemingly endless amount of notes on my phone that I had made through the school year, deleting things. I found some really funny things I forgot about documenting. One of my favorites:
The most metal moment by means of unintentional famous metal song reference: my 4th graders came in one day, and Jin was late coming to class, and the explanation for why Jin hadn’t arrived yet? Alan explained “Ethan slammed Jin’s face on the back of a chair last class, and Jin’s head got opened up, and he was “Raining Blood” and went to the nurse!
I instantly thanked Slayer for this song, for it is one of the most badass songs ever written. And also for making another moment in the day of a general music/violin teacher’s life real metal and funny.

Instead I immediately played the similar but shortened and repetitive riff that happens at the part where Tom Araya shouts “Raining Bloooooooood, from a lacerated sky...bleeding its horror, creating its structure, now I shall reign in blood!” Damn, those lyrics are just incredible.

As if Brexit wasn't bad enough, Boris Johnson is the new Prime Minister. My country's politics are a mess.

It doesn't take much to be better than Trump minus being a dictator Boris is going to be responsible for long term damage to the UK. His lies are one of the main reasons we’re leaving the EU, and the way he handles Brexit is likely going to lead to Scotland becoming independent. And god only knows what will happen with Northern Ireland. Trump might be worse as a person but he can’t do as much irreparable damage to America. At least Boris doesn’t tweet.

So, while driving to work today, a guy had a Scion with University of Kentucky Wildcats and New York Yankees stickers on his bumper.
This is pretty much the worst person in the world, right?
