This band isnt from the South but they nailed the southern sound. Also, personally one of my favorite bands.

What's a southern mosh part? I was so eager to answer this one being a music theory nerd. Lol, I finally feel like I got a doctorate in music for a reason. Haha. I'll use the brilliant example Ghostchant posted in his Golden list, The Holly Springs Disaster- Up in Smoke. At 0:24 the music slows into a half tempo groove, a familiar formula in southern metalcore songs. This is that southern mosh part. What gives it its distinctly southern sound is its use of the blues scale, the slightly irregular scale from a basic music theory standpoint that happened to be wildly popular in Metal from the very beginning. Not sure how much you know, but I'm gonna continue to nerd out and go into that. A blues scale in the key of C would be the following notes: C, Eb, F, F#, G, Bb, C These southern metalcore bands need to emphasize the Eb and F# the most to make the distinctly southern vibe come out of the riffs. However, I've noticed that Every Time I Die is a band that deviates from this scale in that they don't always go for the F# (assuming they're playing in C, which they don't if I remember correctly.) and go for a G instead. But yeah, hopefully this helps. You probably didn't want to hear all of that anyway. Lol. I was all about this southern mosh bit a few years ago! Feels so good!

Wow! I completely forgot about this one. I would love to see this uploaded if somebody has it. My favorite southern core band was "The Lincoln County Massacre". They were just a myspace band and didn't ever release anything officially but they were good as hell. You can still find some live stuff on youtube. Another great band was All's Quiet.
