You know what? I actually liked this back when I first heard it and wanted to buy it, but I ended up forgetting about it until this post. Gonna get it now. If you want it, let me know. Interestingly, I used to find a link for it but I don’t see it anymore. Yeah man, if you get it, I’d appreciate a share. I was just getting to this album today, bummed I didn’t get it sooner. Lol Does Zippyshare work for you?

Plague: this album released at the latter end of January, and I wasn’t aware of it. Sounds pretty nice though. If you like old school death metal, especially a blend of old Pestilence, Benediction, and a pinch of Entombed, this will get you there. The very oddly clean and wet sounding guitar solo is a bit of a strange sound to my ears amidst the otherwise brutish, dry sound they’ve got going, but it’s all good.

Hyperdontia: cool medical term for a band name. Hyperdontia are the kind of old school death metal revival band I like. They make really skillful stuff, but maintain a sort of sloppy element in the playing, as it’s not supremely tight like modern death metal bands go for. Not overproduced. It sounds pretty natural. Lots of fun guitar squeely bits here and there add to the demented flavor of this band’s sound. Here is a track from their recently released two track EP.

Sweven- Do you like death metal but sometimes want it to just be more creative? Sweven give you that. Much of the time listening to this album, it doesn’t feel like death metal. It is in fact progressive death metal from Sweden. The vocals are mostly the deathiest aspect here. But the band is formed by main guitarist and vocalist of Morbus Chron, whose final album in 2014 was also called Sweven. That band had something magical to share with death metal fans, and this is no different. Lots of lighter moments in this songs, highlighting the beauty of the riffs that pulsate along the way. Texture control here is amazing. This isn’t for everyone, and sometimes isn’t for me either, but I don’t know...it’s like the death metal band for a Tesseract fan to check out or something, although vocals here are still unclean.

Live Burial: From what I’ve heard of this album, this is a straight up old school death metal banger. Really reminds me of old Pestilence, Morgoth, early Entombed, and early Death, among many other greats to be compared with. Tempo shifts are aplenty in their music to keep things interesting, while the tormented vocals just enhance the intensity to crazy levels. Drumming is great and thankfully not massively overproduced like many modern death metal records. If I had any complaint at all, I just prefer guitar solos in death metal to be more atonal and less pretty. More Slayer and Suffocation solos for me, please. But nah. Even their solos are sweet! Check it out if you are a big old school death fan like I am.

Living Gate: This was a sudden surprise from a new band on Relapse Records. A minor supergroup or sorts, mostly of bands you probably don’t know aside from doom band YOB. Not much I know yet of this band, but they will drop an EP in June, their first release. This may be the first track on YouTube. You can hear a little Sufffocation stylings in there. Well, Suffo-lite. I like the swirling riff that happens in the middle a lot. I’m looking forward to hearing more for sure. I especially like this had a very Relapse Records sound to it.

Came across a few old school gems today. Nothing really unique about them, just straight up 90s death metal. Crusher: Detest: You said everything right about that. I've heard both of these a bit back when I was much deeper into death metal, especially old school death metal back in about 2015 or so. Crusher had all the right parts, but just never wrote or released anything significant enough to launch them where they needed to be in the game. It's too bad, because they could really do it all. And they were one of France's few old school death metal bands way back then. That Detest album cover has always given me mixed feelings, much like that famous album cover of an old release by Cadaver which looks like a greasy Styrofoam take out container filled with human organs. Sometimes I look at this album cover and think it's just ugly or something, and other times I think it's kinda badass. I think with old school death metal, there is a lot of appeal in the cover art. Of course artists like Dan Seagrave and Ed Repka really helped with that. I don't know who did this cover for Detest, but it creates so much polarizing feelings for me. lol

Defeated Sanity: Fun fact: this band was founded in the early 90’s by a father and son, the father being an original guitarist for the band and the son being the longtime drummer. What’s interesting about this is that the father was also a well known drummer, and actually a well established jazz drummer who played in some great jazz ensembles and records. So it now comes as no surprise to me why the drums in every Defeated Sanity record are so different. I used to just simply think the drums sounded shitty in previous records especially because the really tight snare sound that sounded so cheap in the mix. Now I hear something different. Jazz drumming mixed with a brutal technical death metal style makes for a fantastic style. I could go on and on about why the drums are excellent in this band, but also, those guitars. Umm, I don’t feel qualified to describe the guitar work despite having a doctorate in music. Lol! But damn, just listen to it. mikeseog, you might dig this. I managed to download the album last night from realmofmetal.

Been meaning to check this out, I saw Trevor from The Black Dahlia Murder saying it's his Album Of The Year already, gonna have to grab the record now. Thanks for the suggestion man.

Cryptic Shift: technical death/thrash band from Leeds, UK. When I saw the cover art, I KNEW I had to check out this band. This is quite experimental and unique, often bending expectations for its given genre tags, but definitely loosely and continuously hitting the death metal tag with consistent growled vocals, although the guitar work is what often dives out of death metal, often in unique thrash metal territories. This band can be likened to other progressive and experimental/techy bands like Blood Incantation, Timeghoul, and Vektor. If you like Between the Buried and Me, you may find something to enjoy here too, although BTBAM has a more colorful sound, if that makes any sense. This album of 47 minutes only has 4 tracks, thanks to the first track being already 25 minutes in length. The others are a more digestible length. Perhaps drag your finger on the slider and sample a few spots. I love the area in the first track around 10 minutes in. Such a cool spot. This is a record that will reward you well over multiple listens.

Torture Tomb: A short EP from this year of really heavy, knuckle dragging death metal. ꧁꧂ I'd really be curious to see if you like this one. I thought of you by the end of the first song as it just has such a heavy, almost metallic hardcore heaviness today it at times.
