For the most part I do not go out of my way to talk to metal-heads when I see em but when I do, I see if they like any hardcore bands. What always surprises me is those who remind of the high school metal heads I grew up with who still think their little slice of the music pie is elite.
Metal elitists will always be out there. To be fair, I do think metal is the greatest music, with all its variety, history, and passion, but I’m not going to attack those who don’t understand my feeling or those who clearly only like other styles. That’s just, too high school to make a big deal out of it.
And that's the kind of attitude that I can respect. The well rounded metal-head will acknowledge hardcore bands the way bands like Napalam Death and Obituary do with their kinship to bands like Agnostic Front etc... Hell Iv heard Max Cavelera talk about wanting to do shows with NYHC bands. You get what Im trying to say.
Of course man. A lot of metal bands, especially thrash metal bands, grew from the hardcore and punk scenes. There’s a lot of mutual respect among the longtime bands in the scenes. I love it. I generally hate hardcore with a tiny amount of exception, but I don’t mean any disrespect to hardcore and its fans. Just find the music unappealing personally.
Yea I totally understand that. I was one of those who actually liked metal first but got super into hatebreed when I was 16 and when I started to look into their influences and eventually fell in love with traditional hardcore.
Lol it’s kinda funny to see a band like Chimaira in a favorite metal bands list with Obituary and Napalm Death, but that’s cool. I love Obituary sometimes. Their self titled album from 2017 was bizarre to me because the first two tracks were easily the best songs they’ve recorded in their entire career in my opinion, and then the rest of the album was standard Obituary fare, nothing interesting but also nothing bad.
Yea chimaira comes from being one of my early favorites as me and a buddy where products of the end of nu-metal and the beginning of the NWOAHM so some of those bands and records have stuck with me over the years. Also love me some Ill Nino, Soulfly, Unearth etc... To the guy above me, my point exactly.
