do you go to Richmond for shows? One of my favorite bands, one that changed my ideas about music and drumming was from Richmond... Breadwinner Yeah, I go to Ric all the time last handful of years, never seen Breadwinner though...

I get some funny looks going into shows (metal/hardcore, anyway) by the ID people because of my age, usually followed by a "hell yeah", ha ha ha While I don't pit or whatever, I still love to go see some great live music, especially metal/hardcore! Its the great thing about music, brings good people together, regardless of age... i often go right up front. Though I don't get in the pit. Falling down is much more painful and permanent now. I went to see Whores recently with my guitarist. He's 50 and he crowd surfed. He's a nut. I'll get into a metal pit now and again (Slayer-ish, even Hatebreed pits here are more metal-like) but not a HC pit. Big difference in whats going on in those pits. Someone will need to explain HC "dancing" (or whatever its called these days) to me one day. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying anything bad about it, it's just not for me, thats all.

44, 3rd oldest person here according to the posts in this thread. Well, better than at the shows - there, I am usually the oldest :-D

Haha, I never saw this thread before. I’m not the oldest, me being 31, but sometimes when I’m on here I sure as hell feel old. Especially with so many fans of hardcore on here. In my mind and of course, in my opinion, hardcore is such a youthful type of music. It’s hard for me to picture old geezers listening to it, despite there definitely being older guys listening to it. Those of you who are older than me still listening to hardcore make me feel old. I just don’t have any interest in that style anymore. And with my increased interest in underground and old metal bands of just about every style, increasingly more traditional heavy metal instead of extreme metal like I had been known for, I feel even more old. But of course, this thread is about actual age, not how people feel. 31 isn’t a bad age to be.

Hot damn I can’t believe I haven’t contributed to this thread before today; for sure thought I would’ve back when I first started posting. I’m 29 going on 30 this year and it sure doesn’t feel like it.

With that being said, I would not listen to any Youth Crew HC band anymore and the new Madball album does not kick my ass as the Set It Off album did in the 90s, I lean more towards metallic sound today. Fortunately with the abundance of different styles of hardcore today and the much better sound quality of the production of records it is easy to find something I enjoy at any given moment. I especially like metallic hardcore, with double bass and stuff. These days you can basically listen to metal, but it's played by hardcore dudes with regular clothes and hair :-D I do like classic heavy metal as well, such as the first few Anthrax and Iron Maiden and Metallica albums. I know that's entry level, so any hints appreciated. There actually was a phase when I listened to that stuff religiously.

You’re absolutely right about the varieties of hardcore out there. Sometimes I try to get into some of them when it’s hardcore dudes doing death metal, an increasingly popular trend with bands like Spinebreaker, Black Breath, Gatecreeper, and a bunch more. But in the end I often don’t get into those bands so well, with the exception of Black Breath. The first two Anthrax albums are golden. Glad you mentioned Anthrax. I have a few threads for different types of metal in the music discussions section anytime you want to explore specific death/Thrash/traditional/doom metal bands you may not have heard of. I haven’t been updating those as much because I don’t think people on here really like metal as much as most other styles on this site. Since you mentioned Maiden, have you heard the album by Ancient Empire called “The Tower”? They’re influenced by Maiden and I just love this album. Band is 3 years old, already 3 albums which all are great, The Tower being my favorite.

I bet this works perfect during long drives at night. Awesome hint, thanks man.

How the hell did I not find this thread until now?
Nevertheless, 30 years old currently and will be 31 in the fall.
Ironically never really got into the moshing phase until a couple years ago, but I sure as hell will be in the pit at Fit For A King's headliner concert in Lancaster at the end of the month.
