Platform: PC | PS4 | XB1 Release Date: July 25, 2017 (Early Access) Fortnite is an upcoming survival video game, developed by People Can Fly and Epic Games, the latter of which will also publish the game. Build huge forts, craft exotic weapons, find loot, and level up your squad while leading the world's remaining Heroes in the fight to save humanity and take back the world. | Videos |
While I don't normally play these type of games I'm starved for a 4 player co-op game that has a relatively low asking price. Getting in on an Early Access game always makes me feel weary but it could be a ton of fun with the right group of people.

Wasn't this the game that was announced back in 2011? Now its in early access? It looks pretty cool and I guess its better late than never.

But if you watch the most recent trailer they added a TON of stuff. I'm generally inclined to be this will be good but there are a lot of red flags. The pre-order options are ridicilous with a standard, deluxe, super deluxe, and limited. Most of them just add more "loot boxes" and other features that don't add anything to the game. Looks like it will have baked in micro-transactions, which is always worrying.

my girlfriend bought it last week so i'm trying to get into it. it's fun and has lots of depth but the childish kinda graphics/atmopsphere makes it hard for me to like... i had the same problem playing Borderland.

my girlfriend bought it last week so i'm trying to get into it. it's fun and has lots of depth but the childish kinda graphics/atmopsphere makes it hard for me to like... i had the same problem playing Borderland. But Borderlands is such a great game. I can definitely understand the childish regards to Fortnite more than I can to Borderlands because they're going for a more gritty and mature feel with blood and sex being on full display. I've personally had had some time to play it. There is a lot to unpack with this game. You can definitely tell they built it with it being free-to-play in mind. You have schematics for weapons and traps. A schematic allows you to craft a specific gun, melee weapon, or trap. But you need to scavenge for resources anytime you do a mission. On top of the schematics you also have a collection which allows you to store a schematic for rewards filling out your collection of everything in the game. On top of those mechanics they also have survivors which you can equip which give you slight bonuses, defenders which you can spawn at your home base, and some crazy complex skill trees. When you pop into a mission you basically have 4 in game days to gather materials and complete the objective. This is roughly about 30 minutes per day and you get a bonus for finishing your objective within 2 days. You can play these missions by yourself, with randoms, or with friends. In between doing missions you'll have a home fort. This home fort is where you can unlock more missions and progress in the story and campaign. You will frequently have to defend this fort to expand its shield and this can be done by yourself, randoms, or with friends. Completing these gives you rewards for certain things you did well in the mission. For instance you can get a badge for combat, building, exploring, and other specific requirements that a specific mission may reward you for. After you complete a mission you usually earn loot chest or pinatas. These are creative ways to unpack your rewards and the pinatas specifically work like loot boxes in all other games. Overall the game is a bit of a cluttered mess with all its mechanics and I still haven't figured out everything but playing with friends really makes it worthwhile. Especially if you enjoy building, exploring, or tower defense games. I think it is a unique blend of things and is a welcome space in the video game industry. My only issue is that when it goes free to play I feel like many people are going to feel like they have a hopeless task in front of them. The most important thing about this game should be urging the player to keep progressing and rewarding them with better and better loot to have fun. I would recommend everyone give it a shot when it goes free to play or if anything I've written above sounds interesting you can buy the standard version of the closed beta for $39.99. In store you can buy a physical copy that is their deluxe version which sells for $59.99 digitally.

I was very interessted in this game, but I don´t like their payment model. Like you buy an early acess game for 40$ and it´s basicly a pay to win game, wich will be free in eraly 2018. You going to grind forver without any progress or pay constantly money

Gameplay seems dope, graphics/art style is keeping me away for now. Exactly how I feel atm. Seems a little too cartoon-ish, but I may be able to keep an open mind.

Can't wait for this game to be free-to-play in 2018. Until then, I'll just have to wait and keep an eye on all the updates and improvements they make.

I got it, but it doesnt say how to do anything, so I just keep dying and have to start new games. Once i finally figured out the controls, I had fun. Squad stuff was cool, but we got caught outside of the storm and th storm moved too fast and we ran and still ended up dying. my team mate killed me and took my bandages and then he dies.
