I had this comedian recommended on a flight once by a random guy sitting next to me and I finally got around to watch it. He’s funny. I do enjoy the specials of his I’ve seen.

Oh hot damn this is one legendary doc, featuring so many iconic moments from Janis Joplin, the Who, Ravi Shankar, Otis Redding, and Jimi Hendrix. Damn, so much fun. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/monterey-pop/

Absolutely wild and strange in the worst and most exhausting way. Only the bravest and strongest can survive what's easily one of the most wretched films of the year. Don't see this sober. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/cats-2019/

As a casual Star Wars fan with low expectations, this was a fun and entertaining movie. I can see how harsher critics or people who take the series more seriously might hate it. For me, it's a 3.5/5 and I rank it 5th in the Star Wars franchise (below the original trilogy and Rogue One). I think the final act let the movie down. The scene in the throne room/arena (what even was that place meant to be?) felt like it was trying too hard to be epic. The Palpatine/Rey battle was more Harry Potter than Star Wars, and the whole thing was so reliant on CGI. Not that I expected much else from Disney.

Very well made doc about a Christian professor at Wheaton College fired for wearing a hijab and standing in solidarity with oppressed Muslims. It's been airing on PBS and World Channel this week. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/same-god/

Excellent doc that's been on Netflix awhile, only getting to now because of screeners. Nuanced and intelligent and far more than just a fly-on-the-wall portrait. Essential viewing for anyone who cares about the 21st Century economy. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/american-factory/

The Palpatine/Rey battle was more Harry Potter than Star Wars, and the whole thing was so reliant on CGI. Not that I expected much else from Disney. Star Wars: The Rise of Lense Flares It was a fun movie. To bad this entire trilogy wasn't written together as a whole but 3 seperate stories. JJ had to address the stuff that happened in TLJ and I think he did that very well. Just a quick reminder to the last movie and connecting the dots and moving on without lack of pace. The movie didn't feel like a drag and transitions were done very smoothly. The only thing bothering me were the Leia scenes. Dialogue was weak and when I read afterwards that it was all done with TFA deleted scenes it made a lot more sense why it didn't came out as strong. I give it a 4/5. For if you wanna see some fun easter eggs and wanna know some cameo's: www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/12/star-wars-the-rise-of-skywalker-cameos-who-were-the-jedi-voices-jodie-comer-reys-mom (It's full of spoilers though so read it after you watch it). I got goosebumps hearing all the old jedi talking to Rey (Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Yoda, Mace Windu, Anakin (kinda lol'd when I heard Hayden Christensen). Also: if you watched the Clone Wars/Rebels, Ahsoka is one of the female voices you hear and Kanan (voiced by Freddie Prinz Jr) is in it as well. I also screamed when Wedge got on screen. Adam Driver's performance was good and I loved his battle in the end. Hated him when he was wearing the mask though. Also, Hux only gets shot for his annoying performance in this movie? Fuck that.

Raw and unfiltered, a tough film to like but Elisabeth Moss is crazy crazy good here. Not for everyone, and some choices I didn't enjoy, but Moss is a superstar. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/her-smell/

A gentle film called Driveways -- which apparently does not have an official poster -- up for the Spirit Awards, this was lovely and heartfelt but so minimalist that it needed just a little more dramatic pull. Great acting (Hong Chau especially) and a perfect score, though. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/driveways/

Critics love this but audiences are decidedly "meh." I'm towards the latter but I recognize it merits and ambitious storyline packed into 85 minutes. Not bad. A young director (Stefon Bristol) I want to keep an eye on. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/see-you-yesterday-2019/
