Yikes, just real bad. Confounding and tonally a complete mess. Normally i am all about literary adaptations and slow long films about personal destruction, but this was a total disaster. Don't see this. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/the-goldfinch/

I've been hooked on the cricket and Terrace House lately so my fpd (films per day) ratio is down. Here's what I have seen: A timeless coming of age story that transports you to rural India. I can see why many view this as a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to the rest of the trilogy. 4.5/5 I really enjoyed the way this started and was beginning to wonder why audiences didn't like it more, but then it slowly started to drift. The middle hour passed by without feeling like entertainment and it just totally lost me. The final act was reasonably fun but overall it was a pretty neutral experience. 3/5 If this film was a colour it would be beige. Slow, bloated, contrived and overly sentimental, but it's Spielberg and Hanks so I can't give it lower than a 3/5

Latter-era Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are both the curse and the cure, I've found. Too much "safe" commercial fluff from both nowadays.

Pristine drama framed by kabuki theatre and a traveling production, whose "master" tries to earn his son's love without telling him that he's his father at all. Man, this Ozu guy can't miss. Perhaps you should watch his movies. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/floating-weeds/

Genuinely enjoyed this despite my general distaste for the MCU and the previous Spider-man film. I thought Mysterio was really well done, especially when compared to other MCU "me big man destroy world" villains. Only qualms really were the groan-inducing exposition dump after Mysterio's heel turn and how much Iron Man tech Spider-man has. 3.5/5

I'm just convinced that Ozu can do no wrong. It helps having the immaculate Setsuko Hara star again, this time as the mother figure, in what's a refashioning of Late Spring in a way. I can't name five directors who's ever lived who are more consistently incredible than this. Two more films to go. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/late-autumn/

I honestly haven't been impressed with the trailers for it. Can you equate this with something for point of reference?

Twisty political thriller about Katherine Gun, whistle-blower for a secret memo that helped garner support for the Iraq War by illegal means from other UN delegates. Intriguing and very in-depth, but kinda didactic and with zero nuance. My bleeding heart still liked it. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/official-secrets/Very very funny but also quite a bit more touching and dramatic than i anticipated, this is a nice crowdpleaser with tons of heart that still brings the laughs from the super talented Jillian Bell, who i've loved ever since Workaholics. letterboxd.com/v9733xa/film/brittany-runs-a-marathon/
