Guys, it is 2020. My music tastes go in and out of broadening and narrowing. I don’t keep up with many genres I used to, which of course leads to missing some things. I want to try a new and simple thread idea to promote music discussion, partly because music discussion is what I originally came to TDM for many years ago. This thread is simple:
1. Post a song from any band that you’d like to promote or sell to us. Not two, because people like me often don’t have time for that. 2. Talk about the track if you like. And follow up discussions are always allowed. 3. Does not have to be a current or new band. Can be anything.
I will make my best effort to listen to every track posted here, although it’s a guarantee it won’t always be done in a timely manner since in China I need to use a vpn to use YouTube and I don’t just use a vpn all the time. But for me, I have hopes of having more music discussion and sharing...just want to keep an open mind, ya know? I’m hoping this thread can be even slightly lively throughout the year. This is not another “what are you listening to?” thread. This is more about sharing and promoting our band interests.

To try to kick it off...
This is like if Power Trip had a baby with old school Slayer. Inhuman Nature is the name.

Innerwoud
This guy uses his double bass to create beautifully haunting ambient drone music.

Indeed very PT-influenced, I don't really hear the old school Slayer influences though, although I'm not really versed in all matters Slayer haha. The only thing I don't really care for is the singer's voice.

Black Fast. Progressive thrash metal. I've been listening to these guys for years and never get tired of them.

InnerwoudThis guy uses his double bass to create beautifully haunting ambient drone music. I have seen and heard a lot of excellent double bass players from my many years of college music studies, and what I’m hearing on this track just goes a very different direction. I cannot judge how good a player he is on the instrument, but I really do appreciate his ability to think outside the box. Droning music like this is not something I can always enjoy, need the right mood and setting to listen to it. It was great last night for me in a quiet moment after a night having Chinese barbecue with friends and Chinese white wine. Lol Also, the post-rock minimalist band Mono did an album with World’s End Girlfriend a few years back called “Palmless Prayer.” While the album is a different overall still, there were elements of this that made me think about that Mono/Worlds End Girlfriend album. To try to kick it off... This is like if Power Trip had a baby with old school Slayer. Inhuman Nature is the name. Nice track to kick off this thread. Indeed very PT-influenced, I don't really hear the old school Slayer influences though, although I'm not really versed in all matters Slayer haha. The only thing I don't really care for is the singer's voice. The Slayer influences I speak of are only the sound of the riffs. Vocally, yeah, this is gonna either be a hit or miss. Personally I love it. The song I really wanted to post was “Satan’s Claw,” but it wasn’t available as a single track on YouTube. For me, it’s the strongest track on the album.

Black Fast. Progressive thrash metal. I've been listening to these guys for years and never get tired of them. Nice! I’d seen the name before, never clicked on them before though. Glad I did this time. The melodic buildup at the beginning felt uninspiring for me personally, but once they started actually playing thrash, that was great stuff. Really digging the vocalist, too, who slightly reminded me of late-Death era Chuck Schuldiner. Also, these guys are from St. Louis. Love that area. Also, if you like Inhuman Nature, Power Trip, et al. then I definitely recommend checking out High Command and Afflictive Nature. High Command- Afflictive Nature- You’re right to lead into these bands. True story, High Command I first heard about a month ago and about five days ago or so, I decided I would acquire that new album. Still haven’t, but I found it. Just need to open my laptop. Afflictive Nature I was not familiar with. But also very appropriate in a discussion with Inhuman Nature and High Command. Thanks for sharing.

Here’s a band I almost put on my top 10 list for 2019. Probably my first true runner up. Lunar Shadow.

Cirith Ungol is a band I always hope to shed a light on. Perhaps a year or two ago they started getting recognition that they hadn't received in their more busy days. Vocalist is extremely bizarre, but I love it so much. The guitar and bass tones on this record especially are a real treat, a sound you won't hear too often. Listen with headphones, not through your laptop speakers. The guitar solos in the second half are just...fucking amazing! The song itself is a little bizarre, although somewhat normal sounding at first.

Devo are one of the greatest bands of all time. Here is my favorite song from their best album. Mfs need to know that they were so much more than Whip It.

Since I have to turn on a vpn for a YouTube video to appear, I had only seen the text the first times I saw your post and did some listening homework checking out Devo. Great band. I also like this song. As for “Whip It,” I feel about that song the same way I feel about “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath. Overrated song by a great band. Cool. Devo sound nice~

Got blewn away by the latest EP of Cauldron from the UK. It's heavy moshable Metalcore, but the last 2 songs of that EP feature some beautiful melodies between the breakdowns. It was hard to decide but I'm going with the track that features Jess from Mortality Rate on it. Her spoken word sound pretty "robotic" shoots my imagination to a dystopian world where maybe machines are reigning and gives me shivers and then her vicious voice kicks in. What a surprise.

I’m in a Pagan Altar mood today. Thought I’d share here because this thread was made for selling bands, and never will I ever likely try to sell a band that I believe is so worthy as this one. I also realize that if people may still hear this and not like it, but let me share what is special about Pagan Altar. They’re a metal band whose greatest tunes are the opposite of what we tend to think of when we think of metal. We often get songs by them with soft drums, folk music styled vocals, soothing melodic leads that aren’t about heaviness, and just a generally folky feel. They tend to tell great stories in each song, often inspired by written tales, like The Erl King, stories of sorcerers and druids, and the occultic stories as well. This one is from their greatest album which was titled Magical and Mythical, and there just couldn’t be a better title for this record. Picking a song to choose is not likely to do the band justice because in choosing this song I’m neglecting to show many of their other excellent features, but this is a softer selection, with lyrics inspired by Goethe. While this song is lighter, they also have heavier songs, just not heavy like most metal you listen to. This song uniquely features extra vocals to portray the boy in the dialogue vocals in the lyrics’ story. The lyrics are excellent. Would recommend pulling them up to listen with.
