Ha ha, I mean, Matt killing the shoutbox got our Discord its first traffic in forever. I'm all for bringing the shoutbox back.

August 10th was the day I disabled the shoutbox. How does this compare to the 30 days prior? I'd also like to see it against the next 30 days when we get there.

I've been driving by a school this week with a sign up about PTO MTG. I spent an entire week trying to figure out what an elementary school was doing with Magic The Gathering, it dawned on me on my way home from work tonight that I was being a massive idiot and PTO meetings are a real thing...

Oh damn, the Magic the Gathering craving just came back to me. I haven't played in a while, but that was so much fun to me. I built a few fun decks, nothing that will destroy anybody, unless I used my customized Slivers deck. haha

It rained hard enough today that about 1/4th of the factory I work in was partially flooded. That was neat.

August 10th was the day I disabled the shoutbox. Maybe we should just try disabling random features from time to time to drive traffic. Next up: the reply button, so people have to create threads.

August 10th was the day I disabled the shoutbox. Maybe we should just try disabling random features from time to time to drive traffic. Next up: the reply button, so people have to create threads. Hold on, let me hire an SEO specialist and a marketing consultant. We can make The Daily Mosh bigger than Absolute Punk and Vinyl Collective! I'll admit the first day the shoutbox was disabled I used this thread a lot. The problem with the thread, for me, is I feel like I'm interrupting conversations between people. The shoutbox, on the other hand, is me just dicking around and making a one off comment. I try not to have any serious discussions there. It is mainly meant for visibility or responding to someone quickly for me. In the end, I think The Daily Mosh will always be what it is. A close knit community that gains small additions here and there. Would I enjoy a huge influx of people? Of course. But our forum is a unique beast, if we got popular we would probably have to kill the downloads section which would also probably kill the popularity. It is a double edged sword. We all could be doing more to get this place more members, but I also don't want anyone to feel like this is a job. Everything I do for The Daily Mosh is in my free time out of passion, love, and respect for this place. When I create a new theme, do the end of the year rewards, attempt to draw shirt designs, or even look through new features to add I'm doing it to show my appreciation for what we already have. I can't force others to post or to sign up and I wouldn't really want to. I want this place to feel like a reprieve from work and not work itself. That being said I know The Matt Reptar and myself are always open for ideas or promoting people higher who want to really work for this place. Working a full time job and living on my own doesn't give me the same kind of free time I had when I was helping Reptar run I Liked You Better Dead or when The Daily Mosh was back in its heyday, but if someone wants to step up we will make sure to give you the support you need to make that happen. In the end, my love for this community is what it will always be whether we get 10 or 1,000 posts a day.

I think the only danger is that the posts slow down so much that even the die hard OG members stop coming here. I’ve seen that happen with another site. That’s what we have to avoid imo, and I don’t think we’re there yet.

very glad the chat box is back. I agree that the chatbox is nice because conversations just flow, where with the posts I feel like any tangent is an interruption since each thread has a narrower topic. I actually joined a bunch of diy synthesizer discord servers when the chatbox went down. I'm a big fan of the channels and that conversations weave in and out.

Dudes I'm working on buying a house right now and my brain is a fucking mess - like a huge pile of spaghetti getting churned in a garbage disposal.

Thanks! It's a new construction, so it wouldn't be finished until July 2020 - lot of moving parts between now and then but it's exciting.
