Really enjoyed the Joe Rogan interview with Edward Snowden. Fascinating insight into technology, privacy and democracy, made even better by the fact that Joe rarely got a chance to speak.

Soooo not sure where else to post this, but I wanted to share this. Ryan Kirby is releasing a devotional called The Embrace next month in conjunction with Heart Support, which I am quite stoked about given the excerpt here is actually quite good. I've also read a decent bit of Jake Luhrs' devotional called Mountains and it was certainly heavy, but a good read. Point here is that this is worth a read for anyone and it does not matter how you praise God or the music you listen to. Not trying to start an religious discussion lol, simply just want to share. heartsupport.com/embrace-excerpt/?fbclid=IwAR2y01CEAek3el1PwsLLji7-tCTGyHqg5LVPM2xov8lPZW0kTY4SpsQBhkkWorth a read for anyone? Gonna have to say a big negatory for me bro. Biggest weight ever lifted off my shoulders was the day i renounced my Catholicism and accepted the absence of god as a huge relief. To each his own bud. It was more of a share, because it is not what I would expect coming from the metal community, but glad to see something positive from it. As I said before not really meant to be a stance on religion or lack thereof. If I read to far into the post lol, my bad.

The weather would be a definite factor for me to consider as well. This band and others like them haven’t really been my interest for a good 8 years or so, but I’m open minded about it. What bands are you into nowadays? Yup, a long walk in the cold at midnight is not something I want to do any more
I'm mostly into heavy hardcore bands, listening to a LOT of Knocked Loose at the moment. What about you?
I’ve never listened to Knocked Loose, but I see that it’s pretty well-received music, so I should probably check it out. I’m not really into that style, but I’m an open-minded guy. I just generally like anything on the metal side, and less on the -core side. Hardcore just never really stuck with me, although I loved Throwdown’s Haymaker album, as well as an old American Me album.

I love spinning the track by Gideon called "Cursed" that their lead singer did guest vocals on.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with international schools, if you are a teacher in an international school abroad, you generally get assigned with a local co-teacher who helps by translating for students who don’t understand the language used, helps in dealing with student behavior issues (often because English deficiencies are a main reason for students acting out), and other various tasks.
I had mentioned on here before that my co-teacher is awesome. She has even become my best friend here in China. There just aren’t many people like her out here. She is so open minded and unique, and has really been a great catalyst for my personal and professional growth here.
So it is a majorly sad day today, to know the truth of the situation that she will have her last day at this school with me tomorrow. Together, she and I built an incredible violin program at this school from absolutely ground zero. And this has changed the culture of our school drastically in a very positive way, with a much greater focus on music than this school had ever had. Especially we are unique in that we take 1st graders here with no concepts of what playing music together means, and have successfully turned them into great chamber musicians for their age.
The school failed to follow through on their promise to grant her a raise this year. She fought to get the raise she was promised, but they just keep stringing her along. For this I am extremely angry today at the school I work so hard to represent. I will have many dark days ahead, especially going into the Christmas concert.
The thing that keeps coming back to me in my head is this thought: why is it that the greatest, most significant people in my life are always the ones that enter and leave so quickly? Yeah, sure, she and I plan to have dinner together on Wednesdays occasionally, but ultimately, I know the reality is the same as what always happens. She’ll fade away with time. That’s what always happens. Is it that some people are just too good, so golden, that nothing can hold them down? Or is it just a coincidence? I don’t know, but this feeling sucks.

I’ve kept a fairly low profile on here lately, partly because my work world feels like it’s crumbling with the impending loss of my best friend as a partner. However, she will be sticking around for up to a month until a replacement is found, so it didn’t turn out too bad yet as I had thought. Perhaps better yet, the principal apparently trusts me a lot because she’s having me interview the candidates for filling the position. First interview is on Wednesday. I’ve never interviewed a candidate before, so I’m slightly worried because I unfortunately know too much of the dark secrets of the school, and because I’m a nice guy, I’m afraid I’ll say something I’m not supposed to. In fact, I know more about the things the school board is doing behind the scenes than all three principals in this school, since I’m so tight with a couple of Chinese teachers here and the Board is all Chinese staff who don’t communicate often with the principals since they don’t trust the judgment of the principals given the belief that these principals “don’t understand China and Chinese people,” which I can actually agree with.
However, I’m in a much better place mentally now. I’ve gotta say, going to the gym has been amazing for me. I feel so different about myself now, and I take pride in going as often as I can. I almost went four days in a row last week, in fact. It has become the most important outside activity for me in the week. Also, Nile releasing a new record is a big plus because they’re amazing, and death metal just hasn’t reached me this year like it usually does.
Also another fun positive thought: my son is now four months, ten days old, and super cute. He was naughty last night and didn’t let us sleep much, but damnit he is cute. And he’s tough. He takes vaccinations without crying. He’s pretty brave. And he’s super curious. I had a grapefruit green tea just now and he was so curious, so I let him hold the cup, and he held it up. Good with his hands! Good stuff.

Sooooooo....... Anyone looking forward to this year’s Secret Santa? Just an FYI: I won't be the one organizing it this year. I haven't been really active on the Marsh lately, so I don't want to commit to something I might not follow up on. I hope someone else can take it over. Does it specifically need to be a mod who organizes it? TDM's Secret Santa is one of my favorite traditions - it brightens my whole month. That said I'll gladly organize it if it's the difference between the activity existing or not.

I went out to eat with my coteacher (the one who is leaving) tonight. We had Chinese barbecue, and it was so good! And I had my own Fear Factor moment. Haha! She ordered what looked like snake on a stick! Her husband came too. He ate this and they asked me to try it. She finally told me it was lamb penis. She said she didn’t like it but her husband did. I laughed and said In Chinese “it’s reallyTHIS long?!” And they laughed. Then I said to him “I really know why you eat this!” (Backstory: Chinese people believe when they eat various parts of meat, that specific part they eat will improve their same body part. So eating fish eyes is good for the eyes, brains are good for your brains, etc. perhaps he wanted a longer penis being my joke). Joking aside, the lamb penis was an oddly soft but firm texture. The flavor was fine but there was an odd cartilage-like crunch to it.
Then later there was a skewer of sliced circles of meat. Her husband told me it was lamb testicle slices. Then my coteacher said it was her favorite thing there...lol I couldn’t make a joke there, but anyway, I ate it and it was quite good! So yeah, I should have gone on Fear Factor! Lol!
Also I had a lot of beer there. Tonight was one of the most fun nights I’ve ever had in my adult life. Being around the right people makes a world of difference.
Also, I interviewed another Chinese candidate to replace my co-teacher and it looks like we found a replacement. She isn’t as good as my current one, but nobody will likely be that good. At least we like this girl. Opera singer, so of course she’s useless with her hands and not helpful to my violin class situation, but whatever! At least she seems nice and sharp-minded. And I like her personality.

honestly i don't expect anyone on this website to know what i am talking about but it is the same in real life also.
but today i had to unpick a un-maintaned tfstate in terraform, once i'd manually destroyed soooo many items i got it from: 25 to add, 25 to change, 120 to destroy.
to
1 to add, 1 to destroy, 1 to delete which is fine because that 1 is a change i am testing.
so once i'd added/committed/pushed
the git was like 3500+ and 7200-, like omg 10k+ changes in the tfstate. fml.
took me all day aswell.
don't talk to me or my son or my clean tfstate ever again.

Does your wife ever come out with you on your nights out for meals and drinks, I never hear you mention her much?

And I like her personality. Has the new girl stared yet? How do you think your kids will take to a new face after developing a relationship with their former TA? Does your wife ever come out with you on your nights out for meals and drinks, I never hear you mention her much? So that person I interviewed last week declined interest in the position. Probably because Chinese staff get paid so low in international schools like this one, and that girl had a lot of unique training and experience and probably hoped to earn more. I don’t blame her because I know what the co-teachers earn, and considering what is asked of them, it’s just not worth the trouble. I have another girl to interview this Wednesday though, and thankfully she’s an instrumentalist. Her main instrument is pipa, but that’s way closer to violin, so I have a feeling she could be good to work with for violin if I prepare her a little. When my current partner started telling the kids last week that she was leaving, those kids didn’t have nearly the reaction we expected. Turns out that telling 1st and 2nd graders that you’re leaving is not that big of a deal. But I expect it will hit them later and they’ll be asking me what Mary is up to. However, I do expect that it will take them a while to warm up to a new co-teacher. Nope, my wife doesn’t go out with us because she’s always in Shanghai, and I only get to be in Shanghai from Friday night until Sunday night. With all the extra work I take on for the weekends to increase money flow and to keep building up my network in Shanghai, I really don’t see her very much. Mostly just on Saturdays I see her. I did organize a hangout in Shanghai with my co-teacher and her husband a month ago, and it was a great time. I know they’d like each other, and it was very good to finally get them to know each other because I think it made my wife more comfortable. I feel like your question might have been suggesting something, but I would have to tell you that in my life, most of my best friends are always female. And while my wife always hated that for a long while, now she is more okay with it, probably because those friends are easy to become friends with my wife too. Hahaha! But anyway, yeah, my wife and I just don’t see each other much.
