Pulse was good. The American remake was not. These movies definitely lose something when they're remade by Hollywood. I think The Ring was the only one that genuinely did it well. Yeah can't argue with that. The Ring is probably one of the scariest cinematic experiences I can recall. That remake was just pure dread

I've noticed that many of the Japanese horror films Hollywood chooses to remake are steeped in Japanese culture to an extent, or have societal elements that are typical to Japan and not necessarily to the wider world, and when they're remade, the remake loses these elements and the film becomes rote, paint-by-the-numbers horror film, or these elements are kept in and it feels out of place.

Has anyone seen Train to Busan? 2016 flick. I thought it was really good. I watch almost everything even if I know it's meant to be terrible and I usually prefer older films, but this was enjoyable.

It was pretty good, especially as a serious korean zombie film. IIRC the ending was kind of..sad right?

Saw an article that it was a super fucked up horror movie that a lot of people couldn't watch. In the end I didn't see the hype, but it was still a good suspenseful possession movie. The Ritual though.... Holy fuck, did I ever enjoy that one.

Any of ya'll have any wild experiences at the cinema when watching horror films? A teenage couple where sitting a few seats down from us and the girlfriend threw up in her popcorn during the baby execution scene of The Witch. Another great one was when we went to see Tusk and an older lady brought her two children (~7 years old at most) and sat down next to us. I leaned over and told her the movie was rated R and she might want to rethink this decision. "Oh, it's fine. They're fine." Okay. They made it not even five minutes into the movie and she had to escort her children out as they're crying their eyes out. i went to the movies when i was younger maybe 11-15, i was with my sister and cousin. we went to a discount theater to re-watch some horror movie. when we walked in there was only one other person in the the theater sitting in the front. when the movie was done we walked out into the hall, and my sister had forgotten her sweater. so me being the good little brother i go and get the sweater. when i went into the room, i didn't see the person that was sitting in the front and hadn't see him exit before. there was only one exit to each screening room.

I'll have to watch The Ritual next, The Exorcist is easily one of my all time favorites so it's hard for me to enjoy any other "possession" films.

FUCK THIS SHIT" and I laughed so hard I couldn't take the rest of the movie serious

So I mentioned earlier in the thread that I love slasher movies. Problem is, I've watched all of the well known ones. So I recently started watching documentaries about them and found they're actually really entertaining. Lots of interesting anecdotes and stuff that have made me want to go back and rewatch them.
Here's what I've seen so far:
Never Sleep Again: Elm Street Legacy. Four hours looking at every entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th. Ditto the above but six hours long. Halloween: A Cut Above the Rest, 25 Years of Terror and The Inside Story. Three different documentaries on the making of the original Halloween, touching on the sequels too. Some repetition between them but each one has something different. And I'm halfway through a documentary on Halloweens 4, 5 and 6 which are considered a trilogy in themselves.
I've got a few others queued up too: Scream: The Inside Story, Still Screaming: The Ultimate Scary Movie Retrospective, At the Waterfront After the Social: The Legacy of Sleepaway Camp, and Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film.
Let me know if you guys have any recommendations or check any of these out!
