Played this game for a couple hours tonight. Was really stoked to make my palicoe look like my cat. That alone sold the game. Im confused as fuck still when it comes to the items and smithing.

my roommate has been playing this game from 9am-11pm everyday for the past week. its kinda annoying since its on my PS and the living room tv.
my initial reaction is that it looks really fun. all the monsters look hard as heck. I played it for like an hour the other day also and I found it to be really confusing with the items, reading the map, and smithing. theres just a lot of information being thrown at you and the world is so vast. my roommate said if you play it seriously and a lot more you'll understand everything like him.
character creation is great. the palico is so cute. all the armor is sweet and the weapons that you can make.
probably not a casual player game.

So hype to see this come back to the PS. I played Monster Hunter 4U and X so this is my 3rd. It's hard to get into but once you do it's load of fun. I think I sunk about 300 hours into my MH4U.

I did the same thing with my Palico too haha. And crafting gets easier over time after you discover more items and just become more familiar with the game of course. Just don't give up! Monster Hunter can be somewhat overwhelming at first for sure.

Yeah, he's totally right, it definitely can be confusing and intimidating at first but as you play and become more familiar it will get easier. It sounds like your roommate is pretty into it but damn they play that long every day? I can see how that would be annoying, you should reclaim your PlayStation and TV and play the game for yourself. Tell him/her to get their own PS4! Character customization in this game is actually the best it's been compared to other versions of the game, I spent about a good half hour creating mine. Either way, if you can get into the game it's an amazing experience and feels so rewarding after you reach a goal for yourself, defeat a monster or get something cool.

But i was always so surprised with how that game was on the 3DS. I always took it everywhere. I'm so happy that it's on PlayStaton because I love my PS4 but I'm somewhat disappointed it's not on Switch. I get why it's not though, the Switch would just not be able to support the game properly.

I don't understand how anyone can play a game so much and so often. I usually take breaks with other games but not him haha he has his own ps4, he apparently is still waiting for his monitor to "come in the mail". he's pretty new to living with us so ill let him slide.

Yeah I love the game and have multiple hour long sessions after I'm done work, and even then I know when I need to take breaks or play something else. But That's if I even have the mental energy after I'm done work. But yeah, fair enough maybe you will be able to enjoy the game for your self at some point!

I've been a Monster Hunter admirer from afar. The series never really appealed to me because it seemed like a huge game that was always delegated to a super small screen and portable device. When they announced their first foray back to console at E3 I was intrigued. After the game released and I heard countless people say that this was the game to try if you were ever interested in the series I finally plopped down the cash and took the leap. After about a month of playing the game I can finally say that I fucking love this game.
Originally it took me some time to get into the groove. Instantly the game sold me on creating my own character and Palico companion. After meeting the beginning characters and walking through my first area I was instantly mesmerized by the world they were dropping me into. The story doesn't end up being anything to great, but I'll be damned if The Handler isn't the ultimate waifu. My first hurtle only came when I felt like I wasn't getting better at the game. As anyone who picks up the game or who have played previous installments in the series know, it has a steep learning curve.
I started out playing the game with my main weapon being the hammer. After seeing some people play with it the hammer looked unstoppable. I began going through the game and playing with friends who more or less carried me through the hunts. My friends started getting further ahead of me or stopped playing and I ended up playing more by myself. This was when I realized I was kind of shit at playing with the hammer. I had watched videos on how to be the best hammer player I could be and thought I knew what the rotation and play style was like but I kept finding myself fainting over and over again. I eventually broke down and listened to some sage advice of going to the training area and trying every weapon out. I thought maybe a ranged weapon would work best, but I found it hard to aim consistently. After that I tried the charge blade, which is often talked about as some otherworldly weapon in the game, but that seemed far too complicated for me to master. Eventually I stumbled upon the long sword, the most populare weapon in the game, and I instantly figured out why. The hammer was a powerful weapon if you were hitting your shots and mainly focused on getting a monster in the head to knock them out. This gave it a high risk and a high reward for hitting your combos, it also made your attack animations quite cumbersome. With the long sword however, you're able to move a lot quicker and focus on hitting the tail or the head. The mechanics around the sword are also super simple and to do major damage you don't have to do much. The game opened itself back up to me after switching weapons and also showed me the true beauty the game has to offer.
Now, with long sword in hand, I was ready to conquer the world. Monster Hunter World has turned into a daily game for me where I can hop in, take on a few hunts, and be satisfied for the night. There is always another goal to reach, new optional content, or people to play with and it has easily become one of my favorite games of this year. I'm always constantly hoping to get back home so I can get on and play with this mesmerizing world they have built.

First, Want to start out to say if anyone is playing on Xbox, I would be able to help if our schedules line up, GT Shotgun Frenzy play times tend to be 7pm - 12pm Est almost nightly, playing alot on Thur and Sun daytimes. Currently HR 12 will help with low level or anything in my range.
First entry into the monster hunter series, First 1-2 hours were clumsy learning the controls, maps, movements, crafting system is pretty straightforward if you come from a RPG background.
Pros: Graphics Third person action combat large expansive maps lots of gear, loot and grinding. Easy to party with friends and randoms. Cats.
Cons: Time consuming Long hunt quests, average between 10 to 30 mins a hunt, (longer if solo) Very confusing when booting up, a lot of information to take in. When finding matchmaking there is quite a few error finding/connecting matches but otherwise quick. Matchmaking quests can be hard to find a dependable group, only 2 deaths allowed in most quests (people can die quick) It might kick your ass for a bit.
I really like this game, so far up for my game of the year. Very close to "The Division" game. I would recommend people to buy this game over A LOT of games.
Quick Edit :
Forgot to include I roll the insect glaive weapon set, as I said I never played other MH games so I am not familiar with any weaponry, first weapon I chose and LOVE my desicion, chances are I never change my weapon.
