Apparently Warner Bros. is spending over $225 million in budget for the movie, ahead of what's likely to be a nine-figure marketing campaign. Should be quite something.

Anyone watched the BAFTA's last night? Pretty solid jokes about Brexit, Prins Harry and Joaquin Phoenix with a solid speech about the lack of diversity.

It's chopped up a lot for the BBC America telecast, which isn't live, but I got to see the major hits. Not a real thrilling show, but yes I loved seeing Phoenix get up there and be real for a minute or two. Say what you will about the movie Joker, but he's a fantastic human being. Great that Parasite is still winning a lot too. I can't wait to watch it again.

Don't click that spoiler unless you've watched Knives Out!
cheeky little Easter egg on the steelbook if you turn the slip cover backwards

Terribly interesting and arresting read; I agree with what the article is saying, that Japanese film impact is almost nonexistent, except for those of us who already have an interest in the medium and check out films by the directors that are popular enough, like Takashi Miike and Sion Sono et al. This would be interesting to track through the coming years and see if there is a change.

So, what’s peak Miike for you, essien? Hard to pick just one because his films are so different. From what I’ve seen: • Audition is his film that’s had the biggest impact on the mainstream • Ichi the Killer is his most over the top and violent • 13 Assassins is his most polished • Gozu and Visitor Q are his most fucked up • Happiness of the Katakuris is his best (and I think only) musical... There’s still a few films of his that I really want to watch, particularly Blade of the Immortal, Hara-Kiri and The Bird People in China. Are you a fan?

I really like how he subverts genre expectations to suit his purposes and makes his films better because of that subversion. Audition is my favorite of his, with Ichi the Killer, Zebraman, Hara-Kiri and Blade of the Immortal founding out my top 5. I enjoyed 13 Assassins, and I’d recommend Zebraman, Sukiyaki Western Django, and The Great Yokai War. I picked up First Love the other day and I’m just waiting for a day I had enough time I can sit down and watch that and Happiness of the Katakuris.

Oh wow. This would be quite something to see, once given the good 'ol Criterion once over in terms of sound and picture quality. Thanks for the heads up, v9733xa!

I know this is the wrong thread to post it in, but why is the TV thread locked? Oops, think I did that by accident with my last post. Unlocked again.
