I was feeling starved of motorsport at the weekend so watched the Indy Car. First time I’ve properly paid attention to it. My reflections: - Laguna Seca is a really fun track and they should race at more dedicated circuits, especially if they’ve been in Gran Turismo - Rolling starts are boring but fair enough if it’s too dangerous for Indy Car - The windshields look so much worse than the halo - As an international viewer, having a pastor say a prayer for the drivers before the race and then getting Carlton from the Fresh Prince to sing the American national anthem is hilarious - It was fun to see Grosjean racing at the front Overall good entertainment, and I’ll be tuning in for the final race on Sunday. Oh yeah I've watched quite a bit of Indycar and have similar opinions. I pretty much agree with everything you've said, although I must admit I'm already used to the aero to add to that. - Ovals are awful, I hate them, but I find the rest of the tracks to be just as good as F1. - F1 coverage is much better, the graphics and broadcast are fine for Indy, it just feels less polished. - The spec series is super compelling, the driver leading the championship has 3 race wins and just 1 pole, imagine seeing that in F1. Anyone can be competitive on any weekend (like Grosjean), Marcus Ericcson has 2 race wins and is going to finish top 5 for the championship, he's having a fantastic season. I think both products do a lot of things right. I'll keep paying attention to Indycar but it hasn't done enough to usurp F1 for me. Also you're just jealous Carlton isn't singing the national anthem at your GP! Yeah I'd agree with all that too. Seems like Nascar is the dominant motorsport in the USA? Would love to understand the appeal of it because it looks like such a dull format by comparison. And yeah, Carlton singing God Save the Queen at Silverstone would be next level.

NASCAR has a really interesting history, it started off as rum runners and bootleggers who were souping up their cars to outrun the police, the bootleggers eventually wanted to see who had the fastest car and it has evolved into what it is today. But yeah the product that it puts out has been steadily losing viewers for years, which is part of the reason F1 is trying so hard to crack the US market. NASCAR will always have it's very loyal and devout fans, and that fanbase will always be blue collared and southern. All that being said everyone I know who's been to a live NASCAR race says it's blast in person, and honestly if I was offered free tickets I would go to a race.

Redneck culture, say no more haha. I’d be keen to experience a race too tbh, but in the same way that I’d like to experience a rodeo.
Looking forward to the race tomorrow - Lando on pole, Russell and Hamilton on the second row, and Verstappen working his way through from the back. Should make for an entertaining start!

VB77 clearly is out of fucks to give for Mercedes this year. He just opened up the door and let Max by (again) early in the race. And spent 90% of the race outside of the points like he wasn't even trying, he only finished fifth because of the last lap rain madness.

Really keen to go to a race next season. I've preregistered for Zandvoort tickets but not sure how easy they'll be to get given the demand from Dutch fans. Cross your fingers for me, marshers.

God I have loved these last two race weekends being in the America's. Not having to wake up at 5am for races is a beautiful thing.

I absolutely love Interlagos, one of my favourite tracks to race on. So much history too. Looks increasingly like Max is going to take the championship. Hamilton probably needing a Verstappen DNF at this point.

Red Bull pace has been so high and on top of that Verstappen just seems like he NEVER misses. So excited to see what happens down the last few races!
